When you see how an easy solar panel diagram can be employed to build a solar panel quickly and for under one hundred twenty-five dollars, you'll realize why the time is right to switch to solar power in your home. It used to be prohibitively expensive to alter a home to solar energy. It is still pricey if you hire a contractor to put in commercially manufactured solar panels. It is true that you can find some government tax deductions and credits for changing to solar, but it's very much cheaper to make your own solar panel. But even if you'll be able to do it very easily and cheaply yourself, why should anyone convert to solar? Is it actually worth the bother? Well, let's look at some facts:

1) Solar power saves money - In one year, 2006, residential electric rates went up by as much as 60% in some regions of the United States. Electrical rates still climb even as the price of oil and coal fluctuate. Of course, it is possible to buy those curly light bulbs that make harsh light and then turn your thermostat down to 58 degrees in the winter and up to 78 in the summer. But what if you didn't need to pay for energy anymore? In fact, in the event you generate more electrical energy than you consume, the power company has to purchase it back from you! And consider this: Nissan has released an all electric car, the Leaf. Other car companies have electric cars on the way. How much money could you save by driving an auto that uses no gas at all, only totally free electricity you made in your home?

2) Solar energy is very good for the Earth - What ever your thinking is on the whole global warming question, the simple fact is that fossil fuels, coal, oil and gas, generate pollutants in the air. If we burn fewer fossil fuels, our air will be cleaner. Your residence might not make or break the environment, but each little bit helps and when you add your house to Ed Begley, Jr.'s and several million others, it will create cleaner air for all of us.

3) Solar panels are reliable and easy to maintain - Solar panels have no moving parts. They just sit there gathering sun light and transforming it into electricity. In fact, many makers of solar systems provide as much as a 25 year warranty. They can do it simply because they know the panels just don't stop working. Satellites in space use solar panels for electric power for years and years in extreme heat and cold. Once your solar panels are in place and working, you can just about forget them.

You can see that solar technology has come a long way since its inception. You can pay a contractor to install solar electric power in your house and it will pay for itself eventually. Or you could construct your own panels using an easy solar panel diagram at a tiny fraction of the expense and begin saving very quickly. It is truly pretty straightforward and you most likely have most of the tools you'll require already.
