Cancer has always been a major concern to the doctors for the difficulties in it's treatment as it keeps on spreading from one part to the other. Cancer can be defined as a disease in which growth of body cells increases immensely. The type of Cancer depends on the part of the body from where it starts, even if at the later stage it spreads to other body parts of the body. Cervical cancer can be defined as the cancer which starts in the cervix, a lower, narrow end of the uterus also known as womb. With the development in medical technologies cervical cancer is preventable in most Western countries. The screening tests, vaccination and nutritional diet are the various preventive measures available to be taken to prevent against human papilloma virus (HPV) infection.

Firstly, the introduction of Papanicolaou test, or Pap smear for cervical cancer screening has reduced the incidence and mortality of cervical cancer in developed countries to a very large extent. If the results of the Pap smear test are abnormal then it suggest the presence of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia before a cancer has developed. This result allows examination and possible preventive treatment. It has also been observed that more than 99% of cervical cancers around the globe contains HPV so it is recommend that HPV testing be done along with routine cervical screening.

Secondly, various vaccines like Gardasilis and GlaxoSmithKline have also been developed and approved as a cure for HPV. But it is seen that this vaccines only works if given before infection occurs and therefore they are targeted at girls and women of age 9 to 26. The main drawback of this vaccine is it's high cost so they are not affordable by everyone. In regards of this several countries are considering funding programs for HPV vaccination.

Thirdly, Condoms also offer some protection against cervical cancer. There has been a mixed reaction for this but they protect against genital warts and the initial stages leading to cervical cancer. It is observed that they also provide protection against other STDs, such as Chlamydia and HIV, which are associated with greater risks of developing cervical cancer. Moreover, smoking women has more chances compared to a non-smoker to develop cervical cancer because Carcinogens from tobacco increase the risk of cervical cancer.

Lastly, proper concentration must be given to the nutritions we take in our daily diet. It has been evident that the women who have high level of fruit and vegetable consumption, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, folic acid and Carotenoids in their diet are less prone to the cervical cancer, breast cancer, vulvar cancer and others .

Consequently, more importance is needed to be given for spreading the awareness for the diagnostic and treatments of cervical cancer. Furthermore, various steps must also be taken to decrease the screening and vaccination costs to make the treatment available to every individual. Every disease or disorder that is detected and diagnosed at an earlier stage gives more chances to the doctor to prevent them.
