The Indian visa application centre will be closed on the 17th October 2009. This is because it is the Indian national holiday of Diwali, which is celebrated widely across India, and by Indian natives abroad. This is the biggest festival day in the Indian calendar, and a time for many celebrations. If you plan to use your Indian visa to travel then, make sure you are prepared fully in advance because the VFS offices will most certainly be closed. Therefore proper prior preparation is required.

For those Indian visa applicants that are not aware what Diwali is. It is the equivalent of Christmas in the Christian calendar, and bears the same significance and values as well. The festival is celebrated because it symbolises the return of Ram, Laxman and Sita who were exiled to the forest for 14 years by his father and step mother. Locals in the city at which ram resided in used lights to show the way back home for his return. As a result lights, candles and fireworks are all used to celebrate this day, and usually big feasts and parties are undertaken. It is usually a day for family get gatherings as well. It is likely that many Indian visa applicants are returning back to India to visit their family from the UK or other countries.

Generally there are big meals and big gatherings across India. It is common to visit Hindu temples with your family as a religious act to show devotion. If you do not manage to get your Indian visa in time for this trip, then remember you can always visit India after this date – however the big celebrations would certainly be over.

If using the service for rapid visas, then remember to apply for a visa you must complete the forms which you will find on our website. These forms include the Indian embassy form as well as the Rapid visas order form. You then need to send these along with your passport, 2 passport size photographs for each application to our address. You can use royal mail special delivery or courier to send it to us. This will be the most effective and quickest method available.

If your Indian visa is a business one, then additional to the documents that are mentioned above, you will also need to present a letter of invitation from the company in India along with a letter of support from your UK employer. Both letters need to be on letter headed paper, and have your name and passport number on them. You can contact us for more information.
