Alternative treatments and simple information on prevention is extremely difficult to find, partly because there’s little profit in it partly because men don’t usually get vaginal yeast infections. With any kind of luck we can fill that gap, and make a small contribution to the larger goal of helping women take control of their bodies.

Women should also learn about vaginal yeast infections, since there is probably a problem brewing. The problem is that m any ointments that are sold for a yeast infection is usually available in numerous pharmacies, and the unrelenting drug companies fill our TV screens with every kind of advertisement known to mankind about their yeast infection products. Most women assume that every vaginal itch they have is due to a yeast infection, and immediately run out to fill their bodies full of powerful antifungal creams. However, sometimes it really isn’t a yeast infection.

The problem is that when exposed to naturally occurring vaginal yeast, some of these drugs may be resistant to yeast. Therefore, only the resistant ones not only thrive but also multiply and then next time you get a yeast infection, the result is a vagina full of drug resistant yeast, and then you can’t simply run out to the pharmacy and shell out another $20 for a cure; This time you have to go to a doctor and get a drug which is stronger. As much as 30% of yeast infections are now probably resistant to over the counter treatments. This is very bad news, particularly for those women who have other health problems in addition to a yeast infection.

There was a time when penicillin was considered a miracle drug, and then farmers began using it in chicken and cattle feed so people stopped taking all the their prescriptions and the result was that all bacterium from them on then became resistant which resulted in penicillin becoming worthless and won’t cure anything. Well, nearly the same thing is happening with the drugs designed to kill yeast infections. Therefore, the more people know about yeast infections, the better people, more especially women, will be able to make intelligent decisions about prevention and treatments.
Women need to focus on the treatments, causes, and symptoms of vaginal yeast infections. There is very little information on men’s genital yeast infections, nearly nothing about women who have both yeast infections and HIV, and no information whatsoever on a systemic yeast infection.
