During the week, we get phone calls concerning mold and allergies. People are concerned that their home has mold and they want advice on what to do. They are really concerned about the possibly of their families getting sick from microbial growth. My experience is that a lot of their calls are being generated by "Mold Phobia" that is being perpetuated by the News Media.
The sad part is that Mold is a natural part of our lives. No matter where you go, mold spores are their in the air unless of course you are in what is called a "Clean Room" of a hospital. There a a lot of people who have no reaction to most microbial growth. I was in a house recently that had heavy Microbial Growth in the Air Conditioner and no one in the house was sick. Yet there are others that are allergic to microbial growth due to their Immune Systems from being sick from being chemically injured or immune compromised.
The one thing that we do not recommend is using the DIY Microbial Test Kits because if you open one of these test kits in a clean home, you will still get fungal growth from the existing spores in the air. They will settle into the Petri Dish Media and grow. Do not listen to the sales hype of these people because it is all about money. Another point for you to consider, Insurance Companies will not accept the DIY Test Kits, but only a written report from a licensed and Certified Microbial Consultant. Remember this before wasting your money on these scam artists.
My question to you, "Would you treat your own Cancer or go to a Doctor"? This is a common sense approach to this problem. If you are concerned about the possibility of allergens in your home, do an Internet search for the name of The Indoor Air Quality Association and find a Professionally trained Certified Microbial Consultant. Always remember, "No Moisture, No Mold".
In conclusion, do not let the sensationalism of the Internet and Television cause worry about Toxic Mold. DIY Mold Kits will grow microbial growth in a clean house in the Petri Dish Media. If you are concerned about you health for exposure to Microbial Growth, hire a professionally trained inspector from the Indoor Air Quality Association with Certified Microbial Consultant credentials. If you feel that your health has been affected by Fungal Growth, contact your Doctor immediately.
